Escaping winter!

This is my last post for awhile, as I have to leave you all and go discover the Islands of the Caribbean! Yes, I am escaping winter, leaving behind the snow, ice and cold and heading to warmer climes! We Canadians, have long winters and it will probably be May until all the snow is gone in my neck of the woods, so it is nice to be able to take a break from it all about mid winter.I am sure I will be inspired and come home with lots of fresh ideas for new designs! So I will catch up with everyone in blogland in a few weeks! ( Yes...that is my backyard with all the snow!)

New Necklace- Summer Romance

This is a new listing in my Etsy store called Summer Romance, featuring wonderful whimsical glass beads by Lynne Nurge. This necklace was quite challenging to make, I had the look that I wanted to create in my head, and trying to co-ordinate all the strands to sit the way I had envisioned, took a lot of trial and error in length and placement. I wanted a very loose, unstructured, free sort of look and I think I finally achieved it. There is also amethyst, sterling silver, glass pearls and freshwater pearls in this design.

Strange but true

This week was off to a super start, when I found out that I was one of two winners in Sweetwaters' bead giveaway! I never win anything, so this was a wonderful surprise, and I am so lucky to be the recipient of her lovely creations! Thank you Sweetwater! The week continued to get better when yesterday, I sold the Arabian Nights necklace, that I had just recently listed in my Etsy store after it had been the feature of my "Name that Necklace" contest over the past 2 weeks.
On another topic, tomorrow is my youngest childs' eleventh birthday. I thought I would share an interesting story that occured when I was about 4 and 1/2 months pregnant. At the time, my husband was heading off on a geology field trip with his company, to South Carolina for a week. I was staying behind, as I had a full time job and responsibilities at home. Before he left, I mentioned to him that I was going to read the baby name books, that we had recently purchased, and try to come up with some names for the baby. We had chosen not to know the sex of our child, as we wanted it to be a surprise. Therefore, both girl and boy names had to be considered. While he was gone I spent some time going through the books, and found one interesting name for a girl that I really thought was pretty, and a bit unusual, and sounded nice with our surname. I circled the name in the book, and bent down the corner of the page for future reference. I still was having a hard time coming up with a boys name.
At the end of the week, my husband returned home from his trip, and I mentioned to him that I had found a girls' name that I really liked. He said "Great, I have one too, that I thought of when I was away!" I asked him what his name was and he replied,"Savannah". I almost fell out of my chair! As I reached for the baby name book, I opened the marked page and pointed to the name that I had circled....Savannah!!! So weird! Even weirder....we ended up having a boy...and no his name is not Savannah. I have another strange but true story about another birth, but that will have to wait till anothe time! Pin It

So here today is a special treat for all you fans! This video is vintage Fleetwood Mac, a live performance of Rhiannon, circa 1976! Stevie is simply amazing in this video and really rocks it out at the end. Enjoy!

And the winner is.........

I had a lot of fun reading and checking out everyones fantastic suggestions for the "Name that Necklace" contest. Some of the songs that I did not know, I searched out on the web, and saw many videos on Youtube, to get familiar with them. Interestingly, the first place winners song title was one that I had not heard before but I was intrigued by her comment that she left for me. Here is what she said:

"The first title that came to mind was "Arabian Nights" by Sarah Brightman. In that song she references "Scimitar Moon". Scimitar is a middle eastern curved sword, looking like a crescent moon. "

I had heard of Sarah Brightman before, but never listened to her music, so I checked out the video, and after listeneing to the lyrics, and watching all the belly dancers and wow... check out Sarahs' dress, I felt that the title fit the necklace to a tee. Very exotic and unique! Thankyou to Kindershop, for the winning name,"Arabian Nights"! You are the lucky winner who I will be contacting and sending out those earrings to.
The second place winner is RockerJewlz! I loved her song title "Starry, starry night", by Don Mclean. Here is what she said in her comment:

Starry starry night" by Don McLean...listen to this first line:"Starry starry night, paint your palette blue and gray"...just like the necklace components!

So watch for a feature post here on my blog, on RockerJewlz, later in March.

Thankyou to everyone who entered the giveaway, there were some great song suggestions, and it was a tough decision! Pin It
